Explanation of Terms: GAY
The term „Gay“ is now often used synonymously with „homosexual“ but it‘s history and what its meaning isn‘t as straight forward (pun intended). The term can still have a negative connotation, but it originally meant „fun“, „cheerful“ or simply „happy.“ We‘re here to recover the term and to embrace it. And even though we do use the word „Gay“ we are inclusive of those with different sexual orientations and gender identities.
GAY AND YOU?® in this case is very gladly ambiguous in its meaning.
Regardless of what your identification is, we‘re hoping GAY AND YOU?® provides you with a gay, old time!

Begriffserklärung: GAY
"gay" wird oft direkt mit "schwul", "homosexuell" oder sogar mit negativen Dingen assoziiert. Das ist sehr schade, denn dabei geht das Wort mit seiner ursprünglich schönen Bedeutung völlig verloren. Vor dem Bedeutungswandel in Richtung "homosexuell", ca. 1965, bedeutete es damals ganz einfach "fröhlich", "lustig" oder "heiter"! Es tauchte in dieser Bedeutung auch in vielen älteren Kinderliedern auf. "gay" ist im Übrigen eine Übernahme des französischen Wortes "gai" - und das heißt auch heute noch "fröhlich".
GAY AND YOU?® ist in diesem Fall sehr gerne zweideutig zu verstehen ;-)
